The Happy Octopus – Kids Art Crayon & Watercolor by Captain
Titled “The Happy Octopus,” this piece takes us deep into a magical underwater world. Created at age 5, Captain was fascinated by the mysterious creatures of the sea. Here, he portrays a friendly red octopus with large, curious eyes exploring a glowing coral reef. The yellow structures behind the octopus represent vibrant sea anemones, providing a safe and colorful home for our eight-legged friend.
Technique: This artwork demonstrates a sophisticated use of mixed media. Captain used oil-based crayons for the bold octopus and coral to ensure the textures felt thick and tactile. He then applied a watercolor splash for the ocean water, using a “wet-on-wet” technique to create the dreamy blue bubbles. The addition of white paint dots adds a 3D effect, representing oxygen bubbles rising to the surface, giving the entire scene a sense of motion.
A quick note from Captain's dad 👋
Thanks for being here. My son Captain is 6, and this whole site exists because his drawings were too good to keep hidden in a folder at home.
