The Great Blue Shark Swim – Kids Art Mixed Media Painting by Captain (Age 5)
Titled “The Great Blue Shark Swim,” this adventurous piece of original kids art was created by Captain when he was 5 years old. Inspired by stories of marine life, he depicted a powerful and friendly blue shark with a curious expression. The shark is on a journey through a magnificent underwater world, swimming over a detailed coral reef bustling with other sea creatures, kelp, and a seabed full of colorful coral. The large, ascending bubbles suggest a peaceful yet energetic environment.
Technique: Captain’s command of mixed-media storytelling shines here. He began by creating a vibrant, textured outline of the shark, bubbles, and coral using high-pressure crayons, achieving deep color and clear definition. He then masterfully applied a dramatic, complex watercolor wash for the vast ocean water, layered over the crayon to create a beautiful “crayon resist” texture and atmospheric depth. The varied color application in the water (from deep blues to soft greens) adds remarkable complexity and a sense of movement to the scene.
A quick note from Captain's dad 👋
Thanks for being here. My son Captain is 6, and this whole site exists because his drawings were too good to keep hidden in a folder at home.
When you download a piece, you can print it, frame it, use it as wallpaper, or put it on mugs, shirts, cards — whatever makes you smile.
Every sale pays for his next box of pastels and his next art class. He lights up when someone picks his work. Thank you. 💛
