This giant, friendly puppy with rosy pink cheeks and a tiny purple tongue is enjoying a beautiful day in a magical garden. Surrounded by oversized bunches of purple grapes and blueberries, the puppy stands tall against a swirling, colorful sky. It’s a wonderful celebration of friendship and the simple happiness found in nature and favorite snacks.
Technique: This artwork is a fantastic example of character-driven mixed media. Captain used watercolors to create the soft, warm tones of the puppy’s fur and the dreamlike background. He then used oil pastels or crayons to add vibrant texture to the grapes and berries, making them look almost 3D on the page. The bold black marker outlines give the puppy its friendly, cartoon-like expression, while the “shading” on the grass and trees shows a developing eye for light and shadow even at a young age.
