Sweet Summer Swim – Kids Art Crayon Drawing by Captain (Age 5)

Created when Captain was just 5 years old, the artwork illustrates a dream-like adventure. Two happy characters lounge on whimsical floats—a giant pink sprinkled donut and a unique kite-shaped raft—drifting through sparkling blue water.
Technique: Captain utilized a mixed-media approach that is popular in children’s illustration. He first defined the characters and floats with heavy-pressure wax crayons to ensure the colors stayed bold and bright. He then layered a transparent watercolor wash over the background. The white swirling patterns in the water are a “crayon resist” technique, where the wax repels the paint to create a sense of movement and bubbles, making the pool feel alive.
