Technique: This piece is a masterclass in mixed-media texture and light. Captain used a wet-on-wet watercolor technique for the deep teal and cerulean sky, creating a beautiful “pooling” effect that mimics the movement of the night air. The raccoon is rendered in bold grey and black oil pastels, giving its fur a thick, touchable texture. A standout feature is the opaque white stippling used to create hundreds of tiny stars, which gives the entire background a shimmering, three-dimensional glow. The inclusion of bright pink “berry” pops and marker-drawn insects adds a lovely layer of fine detail.
