The Deep Sea Research Mission – Kids Art by Captain (Age 5)
In “The Deep Sea Research Mission,” created by Captain at age 5, we dive into the mysterious “Midnight Zone” of the ocean. This busy underwater scene features a specialized red vertical submarine and a large research vessel stationed above a vibrant coral reef. The water is alive with movement, from a bright yellow sunfish to a glowing anglerfish and schools of silver minnows. It’s a wonderful depiction of scientific discovery and the hidden wonders of the ocean floor.
Technique: This piece is a fantastic example of textural watercolor layering. Captain used heavy brushstrokes with deep blue and turquoise paint to create the feeling of thick, churning water. He then used opaque paint for the white bubbles and the bright yellow of the sunfish, making them pop against the darker background. The coral reef at the bottom is detailed with marker stippling and “leopard” patterns, showing a great eye for natural textures. The inclusion of thin marker lines for the anglerfish’s lure shows a sophisticated level of detail for a 5-year-old artist.
A quick note from Captain's dad 👋
Thanks for being here. My son Captain is 6, and this whole site exists because his drawings were too good to keep hidden in a folder at home.
When you download a piece, you can print it, frame it, use it as wallpaper, or put it on mugs, shirts, cards — whatever makes you smile.
Every sale pays for his next box of pastels and his next art class. He lights up when someone picks his work. Thank you. 💛
