In “The Dinosaur Research Lab Adventure,” created by Captain at age 5, we are taken to a top-secret island where prehistoric giants and modern science meet. A massive, orange-and-yellow aquatic dinosaur with sharp teeth patrols a deep green lagoon filled with colorful bubbles. Above, a giant pink pterosaur glides through a sky filled with starlight. In the background, a yellow research station with a colorful four-pane window stands guard, while a grey T-Rex watches from the cliffs. It’s an epic scene that captures the ultimate “what if” of a dinosaur discovery center.
Technique: This artwork is a masterclass in complex scene-building and mixed-media contrast. Captain used a vibrant watercolor wash for the lagoon and the lush green hills, creating a sense of a humid, prehistoric atmosphere. He then used bold markers and oil pastels to define the dinosaurs, giving them distinct personalities and textures—from the sharp, jagged teeth of the water dweller to the smooth, sweeping wings of the pink flyer. A standout feature is the bright stippling in the dark sky and the lagoon, adding a sense of magic and movement to the entire composition.
