In “The Giant Spotted Fish of the Blue Lagoon,” created by Captain at age 5, we are taken to a hidden cove where the water glows with magic. The star of the scene is a magnificent, deep-purple fish covered in glowing pink polka dots, gliding through a sea filled with tiny sparkling bubbles. Surrounding it are its friends—a tiny green fish, a sleek grey shark, and even a little pink swimmer. Above the water, a golden beach with swaying palm trees basks in a warm, orange sun, creating a perfect paradise both above and below the waves.
Technique: This artwork is a masterclass in color layering and texture contrast. Captain used a wet-on-wet watercolor technique to create the dreamy, multi-toned blue ocean, allowing deep indigos and bright ceruleans to flow together. He then used bold marker outlines to give the fish their unique shapes and personalities. A standout feature is the opaque pink stippling on the large fish, which gives it a 3D, glowing appearance. The use of white paint splatters across the water mimics the look of stars or sunlight reflecting on the surface, adding a sophisticated “galaxy” feel to the underwater world.
