In “Fishing Under the Giant Rainbow,” created by Captain at age 5, we are taken on an epic outdoor expedition. A massive, perfect rainbow dominates the sky, framing a fisherman in a wooden boat who has just cast his line. Below the surface, the water is teeming with life and a touch of danger: a large green crocodile and a sharp-toothed prehistoric fish lurk near the bottom, while colorful tropical fish swim through the bubbles. It perfectly captures the excitement and imagination of a child’s dream fishing trip.
Technique: This artwork is a masterclass in vibrant color layering. Captain used watercolors to create the stunning sunset sky and the deep blue water, using a “wet-on-wet” technique to blend the oranges and yellows of the horizon. He then used bold felt-tip markers to illustrate the detailed scales of the prehistoric fish and the texture of the crocodile. A standout feature is the white opaque paint used to create hundreds of tiny bubbles and the crashing surf against the shore, adding incredible movement and energy to the entire composition.
