In “Monkey Business in the Jungle,” created by Captain at age 5, we are invited to join a group of mischievous monkeys on their favorite climbing tree. Set against a backdrop of towering yellow mountains and a sky filled with fluffy clouds and a hidden rainbow, this artwork captures the spirit of play. Whether they are hanging by their arms or peeking from the grass, these monkeys bring the vibrant jungle to life with their joyful antics.
Technique: Captain uses a bold mixed-media style to create this layered landscape. He used watercolors for the bright blue sky and the lush green canopy of the fruit-bearing tree, allowing the colors to blend naturally. He then added black marker outlines to give the monkeys and mountains clear, expressive shapes. A standout detail is the wax crayon texture used for the orange sun and the brown earth, which provides a nice physical contrast to the smooth watercolor washes. The inclusion of a small rainbow tucked behind the clouds adds a charming “easter egg” for the viewer to find.
